This talk aims to present a series of collaborative learning activities across different European countries, focusing in the development of mobile Location Based Games (LBGs) within the scope of the INVOLEN European Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP). A framework of classroom-based, location-based and web-based training activities will be presented, allowing programme participants to acquire ICT competencies and to introduce them to the basic concepts of intergenerational storytelling and collaborative LBG design. Parameters such as raising awareness for protected areas, volunteering for nature conservation and bridging the gap among mixed-age participants were some of the main attributes of the INVOLEN methodology which shaped a training course for youth and adults. The reference tools, methods and learning material used for co-designing the INVOLEN LBGs will be showcased along with the constraints and challenges that justified their role in the project. A brief overview of monitoring the learning outcomes from pilot stage to international competition stage, will be presented focusing on the LBG design methodology. The experience of the competition will be shared by one of the competing teams from Greece focusing on their game design approach and game development. The talk  will conclude with thoughts on innovative features that emerged during the project and will outline some preliminary ideas for future and ongoing projects.
